Update 15th March 2011

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

As you’ll probably know by now a Deluxe Edition of ABBA”s album “Super Trouper” is due out in May 2011.  Like previous Deluxe Editions this 2 disc set will contain a cd and dvd.  The cd will contain 5 bonus tracks including the stereo mix of the full length video version of “On And On And On” while the dvd will contain a never before released feature.

With this new edition coming up I thought it was a good idea to focus the next few updates on updating information and pictures for the “Super Trouper” album as well as singles taken from that album.

For now I’ve updated information and pictures for

The Piper

As far as I know “The Piper” has only been released in Poland as an A-side (flexi) single; in most countries it was released as B-side to the “Super Trouper” single.

Although regular vinyl singles have been released in Poland, among ABBA collectors this country is probably more known for releasing many different songs as “flexi” disc.  Often those singles would contain the same track but containing different pictures on the discs.  Another curiosity about these flexi’s is the use of non ABBA related pictures.  It’s almost if those flexi’s were used to promote the Polish way of life, Polish culture and its flora and fauna.

Update 26th February 2011

Today I’ve added info for the following cd single

ABBA – Waterloo [Alternate Mix]

This cd single was a gift from the International ABBA Fan Club to celebrate their 25th Anniversary.  Members of the fan club received this cd single together with magazine no. 105 in December 2010.

This cd single contains an alternate version of “Waterloo” which was only available before as part of the box set “ABBA – The Complete Studio Recordings”.

It’s not the first time a fan club has released some rare recordings.

In 1988 the Dutch fan organisation “ABBA Around The World” released a 7.29 minutes interview with the members of ABBA.  This release was a 7″ blue flexi disc and was available in three different cover sleeves.  More info and pictures will follow in another update of the website.

In 2005 the International ABBA Fan Club released a cd single for their 20th Anniversary.  This cd single included “Super Trouper” and “On And On And On”; both live version taken from the “Dick Cavett meets ABBA” tv show.   Information and pictures of this cd single can be found here.

Update 13th February 2011

Monday, February 14th, 2011

I’ve been thinking of using more blog style pages and this is the first attempt.  Maybe this page will be used as a replacement for the current update page.  I haven’t decided yet so for now both update pages will be available.

If you’re reading this at the frontpage of this blog you’ll find links to the various sections (ABBA, solo and solo projects) for the main website ABBA – The Releases at the right of your screen.

Anyway, in this update there’ll be information about remixes and Spanish ABBA tracks.  If you click on the picture you’ll be taken directly to the main website (not opening in a new window or tab).

The Best Of Hot Tracks Vol. 1
This compilation cd includes “The Visitors [They’re Back CD Edit]”, a remix from the original track.  This cd version is a re-edit of the original 12″ single released in the early 1980’s.

Disconet Dance Classics Volume #3
This compilation cd includes “Lay All Your Love On Me [A Raul Dance Mix], a remix from the original track.

Both Disconet and Hot Tracks were famous for making remixes of popular (dance) tracks.  Many times those remixes were semi-official and available for DJ’s only.  As far as I know neither company used (or were allowed to use) the original tapes from Polar to make these mixes.

Also “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” has been remixed by Hot Tracks (another semi-official mix) while Agnetha’s “One Way Love” has been remixed by Razormaid.  I must have heard or read somewhere that Razormaid was allowed to use the official tapes from Polar.

ABBA: “Oro Grandes Exitos”
This compilation album was first released in 1992 and includes 10 tracks.  This edition was basicly a re-release of the “Gracias Por La Música” album which was released in 1980.  Later re-releases include all 15 Spanish ABBA tracks.
Collectors info: all tracks are the full length versions.  Some edition have only English liner notes and others have Spanish as well as English liner notes. There are not many different cover sleeves released; there’s the gold coloured one and the black coloured one.  A nice Asian edition uses a picture sleeve and a wraparound obi strip.
